Set in 1964 at a fictional catholic school in the Bronx, the play addresses issues of faith, truthfulness and determination to do what's right at any cost. Sister Aloysius, head of the school, suspects that Father Flynn is having an inappropriate relationship with a student. After being warned by a younger nun, Sister James, of Father Flynn's possible misconduct, Sister Aloysius takes things into her own hands, despite the well being of a young boy, the reputation of a school, and the fate of a popular priest.
