The Alamo is a woebegone motel directly across the street from a federal penitentiary in Texas. The women in the play "do time" between visits with their men in prison by playing cards, ordering Chinese food, planning a wedding and taking a final stand against loneliness. This warm comedy brings together a delightful group of wise-cracking characters including a tough-talking New Yorker engaged to a mobster, a dental hygienist visiting her father, a young yuppie wife arriving for the first time to see her white-collar criminal-husband and a seventy-year-old numerologist about to marry a twenty-something prisoner. At the Alamo, these prisoners of love ultimately earn their freedom.
